Privacy and SSN-see notes
Case Description
I am continuing the conversation from Case ______. This case was closed, even though I never indicated that my concern had been addressed. Your response was "TriNet will not provide your individually identifiable information to third-party providers or other commercial parties for commercial use except as permitted by you." Well, I have been told this same sort of thing with several prior companies, and still have had my SSN disclosed to my health insurance provider. The general excuse has always been that the electronic system does this automatically, or something along those lines. Then I have to go through the time-consuming process of filing a complaint with the health insurance company to get a new account created with a "dummy" SSN. Then my original account still is retained in their system for several years, unless I decide to pay for an attorney and file a lawsuit to force them to delete my SSN from that record. I need an assurance that you have taken some specific *non-standard* action that will prevent my SSN from being disclosed to the health provider. Please address this specific concern rather than giving me a generic assurance that your company respects my privacy. Again, I have been told the same thing several times before, and yet the problem has still occurred.
Regards,
Clay Shentrup

At my current and previous employer, third-party benefits administrators have disclosed my Social Security number to my health insurance providers, even after I explicitly asked them not to. This blog chronicles my ongoing effort to get my SSN purged from the insurance company databases.
