I spoke with Jeff Jackson, and then to a supervisor named Cynthia.
Jeff confirmed that they do have my SSN on file. [I don't remember whether this was with regard to my Blue Shield health policy, or my Delta Dental dental policy.]
Spoke with my office manager at Zendesk about ensuring that the SSN is replaced with a dummy (fake) value, as I have done in similar situations in the past. (E.g. when working as a financial counselor at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.)
